Cut Yourself With Your Dull Weapon

Cut Yourself With Your Dull Weapon

Understanding
Is a river deep,
A mountain wide, a child that weeps,
A dog that howls and a well that’s dry,
An eye that stares,
And a silent cry.

If you don’t know yourself and what your place is
On this earth,
A hollow heart you’ll have
And compassion there’ll be a dearth.

Trouble springs up
Like a locust weed,
Blots out all signs of life
Replaces all with death,
Skulls of cows and blowing sand,
A design for my life that isn’t quite so grand.

Tart the tongue that tries to speak
The demise of me, when to my eyes
I clearly see the life within,
That lives and breathes
And takes away sin.

Seeming
And deeming,
Frustration quietly streaming,
Salient degradation leads to screaming,
And all twirls around in my head;
Carping
Rather than harping,
No silent melody
But rather a cacophony,
Evil breeds itself
And all lie down and cry.

When I think of all I
Thought I knew
When I was more ignorant
Than I am now...
I am thankful that,
At least on occasion,
I kept my damned mouth shut.
